Listen to Lisa Tucci interview Elaine Hollingsworth, Author of Take Control of Your Health, and Professor/Dr Brian Rothbart, Author of The Foot's Connection to Chronic Pain, about their journey that led to writing their books.
About Professor/Dr Rothbart's Second Book - The Foot's Connection to Chronic Pain
If you’ve been futilely searching for a resolution to your ever worsening chronic pain and have been disappointed time and time again, the reason is because there has been no therapy – traditional or alternative – that is able to permanently eliminate chronic muscle and joint pain.
That is - until now.
Professor/Dr. Brian A. Rothbart has spent over 40 years in research and clinical practice and has discovered two inherited, abnormal foot structures – the Rothbarts Foot and the Preclinical Clubfoot Deformity - that predispose over 80% of the world population to chronic muscle and joint pain. If you live with debilitating or disabling chronic pain, one of these common foot structures could be the source of your problem.
In this book you will learn:

BOOK REVIEWS
This is the first time I’ve read a book which contains science and philosophy and is written for both doctors and patients. Professor / Dr. Rothbart’s new book promises to be a revelation to the millions of people worldwide who suffer from chronic pain, and the millions of practitioners who strive to treat it. The premise of the book is very simple: to delineate, as the title indicates, The Foot’s Connection to Chronic Pain. But the ramifications of the premise are immense. As Professor / Dr. Rothbart describes, our foot structure is responsible for our overall posture, so that distortions in foot structure produce complementary distortions in posture. Over time, these postural distortions produce the ailments that plague chronic pain patients: joint pain, fibromyalgia, arthritis, disc pain, bone spurs—the list is endless. The foot isn’t just “connected” to chronic pain, then, it causes it. And once the cause of chronic pain is identified, patients and doctors can work on curing it, for good.
This first insight—that we need to treat the cause rather than the symptoms of chronic pain—makes Professor / Dr. Rothbart’s work stand out from the countless treatments and modalities that pain patients have inevitably tried. The second insight—that correcting distortions in foot structure can eliminate chronic pain entirely, and that such corrections can be accomplished without surgery and drugs—promises to revolutionize our cultural attitude toward pain. Readers of this book are likely those who have been through the medical mill; they are the patients who have tried “everything” and are bound to be hopeful and cynical in turn. If the premise of this book sounds too good to be true, keep reading. In a remarkably lucid work, supported by decades of intensive scientific research, Professor / Dr. Rothbart convinces his readers that a strong, functional, pain-free body is something all of us can possess. Hope, in this case, is not misplaced.

It’s not often that we have the combined experience of an orthopaedic surgeon, researcher and patient combined in one person, generating insights that would otherwise have been missed.
Prof Rothbart’s extensive experience gathered from his many years as Research Consultant for United States Army, Research Fellow at the Istituto Superiore di Sanita (Italy), Diplomate at American Academy Pain Management, Fellow at the American College of Foot Orthopedics, Associate Professor at the Department of Internal Medicine (University of Washington) and many other activities is synthesized in this book. As a patient who experienced the worse of the consequences of chronic pain, he is also able to talk with compassion and sympathy to other people now suffering the same as he did and strives to give hope.
It has been long known that issues in the feet such as fallen arches (flat feet) can be responsible for pain in other parts of the body such as knees and back. What this book adds is a comprehensive explanation of how this happens and, for the first time, the possibility for an accurate clinical diagnosis and treatment through Professor Rothbart’s discovery of Rothbarts Foot and PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity after many years of observation, research and development.
An accurate diagnosis means that, for the first time, it is now possible to have an accurate intervention (in the form of Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy) to redress the imbalances within the body structure that are responsible for chronic muscle and joint pain. This intervention is unique and bespoke to each patient. - “Knowing the cause leads to finding the solution”.
The book has a few surprises, even for the most experienced practitioners. Using easy to understand language, Prof Rothbart covers every aspect of the close relationship between feet, posture and brain, from detailed descriptions of how Rothbart’s Foot and PreClinical Club Foot develop within the womb, to their effects on muscles, joints and even - surprisingly – their role on dental complications, symptoms of conditions as varied as arthritis, infertility and mental-emotional conditions.
Clarity is enhanced by the many illustrations and diagrams that are provided as well as links to online animated images when necessary and real life case studies.
This is an essential read for anybody suffering from chronic pain as well as for all types of health practitioners, including specialists.
Sometimes the truth is so close that we cannot see it. This may well be one of those cases.

In reading The Foot’s Connection To Chronic Pain, I found similarities to my circumstances that I had not previously recognized. The book takes you down a complicated path made easy by the explanations, examples and patients’ personal experiences. From identifying the condition, identifying treatment options, to the therapy itself, the book is succinctly written, sympathetic and gives one hope that we have stepped forward to a more sophisticated treatment of chronic pain than previously afforded to us in the past. I sincerely encourage people to read this book and in it find optimism for a more pain-free life. Thank you Professor Rothbart!

Professor Rothbart and his assistant, Linda, are a couple made of steel, and in this case it’s appropriate to say that behind every great man is a great woman. I worked with Professor Rothbart in Italy and he has always been a special genius who saw where others did not.
With this book, The Foot’s Connection To Chronic Pain, he has explained an embryonic cause of chronic pain that can affect a person’s entire life. The book is useful to scholars in the field, but with a clarity and ability that a layman can understand, evaluate and reflect on an issue that affects a large part of humanity. To naturally explain topics of universal significance is typical of greatness… and Professor Rothbart is such a man.
This book describes a missing link to research on the biomechanics of posture and will make a contribution to improving the quality of people’s lives.

This book is very clear, easy to read, descriptive and easy to understand. For people who suffer with chronic pain, it will be useful for them to learn the real root of their pain and consequently how to treat it successfully with Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy. I identify myself in your explanation about the exhaustion that you suffer if you have a PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity and also the dual life you have if you have chronic pain: “a smiling face at work with friends and family, but at home trying to recuperate from another exhausting day.” I highly recommend reading The Foot’s Connection To Chronic Pain to any person who (yet unsuccessfully) has been treated for chronic pain problems. Congratulations, Professor, and please keep investigating on this problem to help people as you do.

After reading The Foot’s Connection To Chronic Pain, by Dr. Brian Rothbart, I realize the importance of our feet in determining our overall posture and health. I have treated TMD (temporal mandibular dysfunction) posture related clients since 1977 and now know more about Rothbarts’ Foot and PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity effects from the feet up versus the head down.
I highly recommend all health professionals to evaluate the frontal plane position of the cranial bones and atlas to see if dental orthotics, prescriptive insoles, or both concurrently are needed to treat pain clients.

I have found Dr. Rothbart’s book to be highly impressive in its scope and understanding, and a source of important life-changing information. He has articulated quite clearly the ‘domino effect’ that foot deformities have upon not just localized foot health, but total systemic body health. This makes perfect sense, since our feet form the 100% load-bearing foundation of our bodies, Dr. Rothbart clearly shows that if they are not correctly formed and properly aligned structurally, that they will malfunction and generate from ground-zero a systemic imbalance that can result in the manifold health problems.
For many years I have been adversely affected by a number of health issues that I thought were independent of each other, after reading Dr. Rothbart’s book I can see how most of these problems begin at my feet. With approximately 8 out of 10 people suffering from such a condition, we are talking about something that is virtually omnipresent and adversely affecting the majority of the world’s population. This is a profoundly significant problem that Dr. Rothbart has identified and developed effective treatment for.

Dr. Rothbart's The Foot’s Connection To Chronic Pain, is very user friendly. This easy to read book provides a valuable source of information about the cause of chronic pain. Simplified in layman terms, it could also be used as a self-help type of book, and I actually recommended it to a family member who suffers from chronic pain. Great find! Depth and, more specifically, reliable depth of the information presented is essential. I will refer to it and fully expect my patient management to be better of it.
