Acting on this signal, the cerebellum initiates a postural adjustment - towards an upright position, or towards a slouched position.
Posture affects the entire body. Good posture creates positive, healthy changes in your body, whereas poor posture creates negative changes.
Using Proprioception To Eliminate Chronic Muscle And Joint Pain
Let’s start with a definition of the word ‘proprioception.’ Proprio comes from the Latin word proprius, meaning “one’s own” and perception is the sense of the relative position of neighboring parts of the body.
Proprioception is a distinct sensory feedback mechanism that provides information to the brain about the body.
Proprioceptive stimulation is a process in which the brain is stimulated to automatically adjust the body’s posture. This is done through a tactile stimulation which is applied to the bottom of the feet (when standing or walking). Through this stimulation, a signal (message) is sent to the cerebellum (the balance center of the brain). (See Figure below - Foot to Brain Connection).
As a result of this global postural correction, chronic muscle and joint pain is greatly reduced or totally eliminated and the entire body is encouraged to readjust itself towards a state of harmony and wellbeing.
Proprioceptive Therapy and more specifically, Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy, is a type of therapy that uses specific complex tests, proprietary computer analyses, continual monitoring and prescriptive designed and fabricated proprioceptive insoles. The end result of Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy is a permanent improvement of your body’s posture and a great reduction or total elimination of your chronic foot, knee, hip, back, neck and jaw pain.

How Proprioceptive Stimulation Is Used To Eliminate Chronic Pain
Taking advantage of the body’s proprioception, I use specific prescriptive proprioceptive insoles based on the results of extensive computer analyses of your posture. These proprioceptive insoles adjust the body’s posture in a specific, predetermined and positive way. This is done by sending specific signals from your feet to your brain. Your brain acts on these signals and automatically makes a correction in your body’s posture, re-aligning the joints and muscles. (See Figures Below - Poor Posture, Good Posture).
